Sorry for the long absence, but I had a few personal and medical issues that I needed to get taken care of. But anyways, I am here, done with school for the summer, and am ready for a wonderful time before I move away!!!
I have recently been enjoying a couple of Netflix shows during the warm spring and summer afternoons when I want to take a nap but can’t actually sleep. So, here are my 3 binge approved shows that rotate around strong female leads.
“Anne with an ‘E'” – This is a wonderful Netflix original that has been out for about a year, but I love watching over and over. It’s based on the story by L.M. Montgomery Anne of Green Gables. The acting/actors, the scenery, the actual story, and simply the purity of everyone in the show is beyond words. The points that Anne makes about being a girl and the sexism that is a part of that time in history is wonderful and serves as a good reminder of how our society is now.
“The Keepers” – This is not a documentary for the squeamish nor the faint of heart, but it is thrilling and brings light to many issues that we still have today. The documentary follows two women as they search to bring justice for their high school English teacher who was murdered almost 50 years ago. *Trigger warning for sexual abuse and violence* It also deals with sexual abuse victims and how they struggle with coping even 50 years after it has happened and how they refuse to go unheard. I will say that I had to spilt this binge throughout a week because some of the episodes felt very heavy and dealt with hard topics, but don’t let that discourage you from watching. Everyone should hear the story of Sister Cathy.
“Alias Grace” – This Netflix original is based on the novel by Margaret Atwood and is once again amazing. Haunting, slightly curious, but overall is a great story. And it’s worth binging in one day… yeah, I did that. The story follows a convicted murderess who has been in prison for 15 years when an American doctor comes to find if she actually committed the murder or if she has been wrongly convicted. It is a great story and is a reminder to the lack of rights that women had during that time period. It is definitely worth the watch.
So there are my 3 binge-worthy Netflix shows that have a strong female presence or lead in them. They are all approved for nap time by Katie (I officially have a dog btw), and the story will not leave you for a good while.
So while you’re in a reading lull and need a good story to fill you up, check out these shows on Netflix. I promise that you will not be disappointed.
