Hey everyone! So I really wanted to do a wrap up post of everything that I read during 2017, but it was going to be pretty long. So I decided to save you all some time and get right to my top 5 favorite books that I read during 2017!
Thanks to the handy-dandy Goodreads “Year in Books” thingy, I was able to see everything that I had done.
I had set my reading goal for 30 books this year. I know that doesn’t sound like a lot to some of you, but for me, going to school and working, that’s a pretty good goal. Also, I’m elated that I surpassed my goal, so maybe for 2018 I’ll make my goal 50 books.
So… (drumroll please) here were my 5 favorite books!
- A Court of Thorns and Roses whole series is my top one. I read this little trilogy all in about 2 weeks which is astounding for me and I fell in love with all of the characters. It also got me out of the reading slump that I had felt myself beginning to fall into.
- If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio was my second favorite read! I devoured this book and was hungry for more of her writing. So here I sit patiently waiting for her to write another amazing book. This seemed to be the book that I needed at that exact moment in my life. Funny how that works out.
- Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. I would be lying if I said that this book had not change or affected me because it really did. It hit me right where it hurt and I can say that it had a huge influence on me as an intellectual.
- Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler. This is another one of those books that fell into my life at just the right time. It’s a story about a girl discovering new things in her world and about herself and it was just right for me. It’ll always have a special place in my heart and I’ll try to reread it a few times.
- Aaaaand last but certainly not least, An Ember in the Ashes and A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir. These books. Oh my gosh. These books. If you have not read them, you have to. I love her writing style and the characters seem so freaking lifelike. Just go read these books and then we can all comeback here and talk about them.
All of the books that I have read in 2017 have helped me think in a different way, further myself as a human, help with my continuing education, or just give me a break and a bit of enjoyment.
What are some of your favorite books that you’ve read this year?
Fave: A House in the Sky by Amanda Lindhout!

I’ve heard really great things about that book. I might have to add that to my 2018 TBR π

You must! And if you love it, read One Day Closer (her mom also wrote a memoir about the experience), and Price of Life is about the guy she was trapped with!

I was hesitant at first as well, but then I couldn’t put the books down. If you like fantasy and romance and a bit of political turmoil, then I’m sure you’ll like this book.
